Sebastian Rivera Joins Columbia Wrestling Staff as Assistant Coach
Olympic Bronze Medalist Sebastian Rivera has joined the Columbia wrestling team as the David and Michael Barry Assistant Coach of Wrestling, starting in September 2024. Rivera, who has represented Puerto Rico internationally since 2021, brings a wealth of experience to the role, including his impressive Olympic achievement in 2024.
A standout in the wrestling world, Rivera’s career includes a World Silver Medal in 2023, which secured his spot in the Paris Olympics. He also earned silver and bronze at the Pan American Championships in 2022 and 2023, along with gold at the Matteo Pellicone Ranking Series and the Grand Prix of Spain.
Columbia Wrestling Head Coach Pritzlaff, who has coached Rivera both at Rutgers and internationally, expressed excitement about Rivera’s impact on the program. "Sebastian's accomplishments will inspire our athletes and elevate our culture," Pritzlaff said.
A former All-American at Northwestern and Rutgers, Rivera also has extensive coaching experience, with his father, Steve Rivera, being a four-time Division III All-American and NCAA Champion. Rivera’s commitment to wrestling extends beyond his competitive career as he helps develop young talent through his father’s Elite Wrestling Club.
The Columbia Wrestling community looks forward to Rivera’s contributions as both a coach and mentor, continuing his legacy in the sport.
